Allan Musinguzi, MBChB, MPH
Allan Musinguzi is a public health physician and early career researcher in Uganda dedicated to advancing tuberculosis (TB) and TB preventive treatment (TPT) for people living with HIV in resource-limited settings. He has coordinated the NIH-funded 3HP Options Trial, generating evidence on short-course TPT regimens, patient preferences, and cost-effectiveness to inform HIV/TB programs. Trained in medicine and public health at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, he is currently a University of California TRAC (TB Research Advancement Center) Global Fellow at UCSF, where he is building expertise in implementation science, data science, and grant development to advance his independent research career.
Asiko Ongaya, PhD candidate, MSc, BSc
Asiko Ongaya, PhD candidate, MSc, BScAsiko Ongaya is a Senior Research Scientist specializing in microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases at the Centre for Respiratory Diseases Research (CRDR) of the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI). Her research focuses on tuberculosis (TB), extrapulmonary TB and TB/HIV among other co-infections, with an interest in diagnostics, treatment monitoring, host immune responses, and the complications that can arise after TB treatment, such as TB relapse and post-TB lung disease. She has experience in designing and implementing laboratory study design, large-scale biological specimen processing, and utilizing techniques such as flow cytometry and molecular assays. She has led and collaborated on numerous research projects spanning bacteriological and molecular diagnosis of TB, immunology of TB/HIV co-infection, TB epidemiology and drug resistance studies.
Peter James Kitonsa, MD, MPD, MMed
Peter James Kitonsa is a pediatrician and public health specialist at the Uganda Tuberculosis Implementation Research Consortium (U-TIRC) with a strong interest in pediatric tuberculosis diagnostics and implementation science. His research centers on integrating non-sputum-based tools(specifically, tongue swab molecular assays) into feasible and acceptable approaches, including for low resource settings. He has led research projects in both rural and urban settings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address health system gaps in infectious disease management. He is equally committed to guiding young clinicians, promoting child health advocacy, and engaging in policy discussions that improve health systems for Tuberculosis elimination.
