REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN THROUGH JULY 1!
The Bay Area TB Science (BATS) Symposium will be held in-person on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 9am-5pm, on the UCSF Mission Bay campus, focusing on local researchers sharing their work and allow for networking opportunities along with talks, posters, and catered lunch.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Mark Davis, Director of the Stanford Center for Human Systems Immunology, and a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. He received a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. He later was a postdoctoral fellow and staff fellow at the Laboratory of Immunology at NIH and then became a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he remains today. Dr. Davis is well known for identifying many of the T-cell receptor genes, which are responsible for the ability of these cells to recognize a diverse repertoire of antigens. Other work in his laboratory pioneered studies of the biochemistry, genetics and cell biology of these molecules and T lymphocytes generally, which play a key role in orchestrating immune responses. His group has developed many new technologies to enable human immunology studies, including the widely used peptide-MHC tetramers and most recently spheromers to enable the labeling of antigen specific T cells, the first high throughput single T cell analysis methodology, the GLIPH program to analyze T cell specificities directly from sequence data and, most recently, a simple method to create immune organoids from tonsils or spleens to allow human immune responses to be analyzed in vitro.
The event will be hosted by the Center for Tuberculosis at UCSF, with partners from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and Stanford University participating in the event’s planning committee.
DEADLINE: TUESDAY, JULY 1ST
All attendees must register, as this will be an in-person only event.
There is no charge to attend, however space is limited. Open through July 1st or until maximum capacity is reached.
Attendees will have the opportunity to submit abstracts to be considered for oral talks and poster presentations.
We only have space for 40 posters, so they will be first-come, first-served.
We have established the BATS Rising Star Award to acknowledge a postdoctoral fellow or assistant professor who has distinguished themselves in TB research. We will accept self-nominations and people can nominate others as well.
Requirements:
- NIH biosketch
- Summary: Include name of nominee and email, nominator name and email (if applicable), and a 1-paragraph summary of research accomplishments
- Please use file naming conventions as follows:
